What breaks today

A cabin bag generates no data anywhere in its journey.

Gate-checking becomes a precaution rather than a decision — too early and you take bags from a cabin that had room, too late and boarding slips.

Policy you can't enforce in the moment.

Two questions an agent can't answer while boarding 180 people: is this bag too big, and is this passenger carrying more than their fare allows? The allowance sits in the DCS. The bags are in the queue. Nobody joins them up — so enforcement becomes a person eyeballing a bag, inconsistent between agents and argued with by passengers.

Estimated, never counted.

Airlines can forecast passenger loads by route and season. Real-time cabin baggage is the number those forecasts don't have, so it gets estimated from load factor and fare mix instead of actuals.

STEP 01

Capture

Cameras sit at the e-gate lanes. We take images of every cabin item as passengers walk through. Faces are blurred at capture. No change to the passenger flow.

STEP 02

Understand

Every bag classified by type — trolley, backpack, personal item, laptop bag — and by size: overhead, under-seat, oversized. Counted per passenger and per flight, against airline allowance rules.

STEP 03

Act

The count reaches the gate before the passengers do. Alerts fire as bin capacity approaches its threshold, so agents gate-check against a number instead of a hunch.
